Meet Nick Arvin -- Engineer and Novelist
āA young man reconstructs auto accidents, dissecting the details, discerning the chronological cause-and-effect elements leading up to the event that changed so many lives. But beyond the mechanics of his investigation, he learns the limitations of his analytical skills with managing matters of the heart, the gravitational pull of past events, and their consequences on present-day decisions and relationships. It also involves illicit love, Legos, wild pigs, and a lot of car crashes.ā
Nick Arvin is describing his new novel, titled The Reconstructionist, released March 15, 2012, this is his third published book ā he is also the author of In the Electric Eden: Stories, and Articles of War, a novel named one of the Books of the Year by Esquire magazine. Nickās award-winning work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Rocky Mountain News.
AND, he is a mechanical engineer in Harris Groupās Denver office.
The Reconstructionist, has been well received by the literary community with some very nice things having been said about itā¦
Amazon (a best book of the month pick): "You wouldn't think that earning a pair of mechanical engineering degrees would lend itself to fine literature, but Nick Arvin is an exception: His thoughtful, offbeat, original sophomore novel, The Reconstructionist, has a caliber as unexpected as its author's. Antihero Ellis Barstow, whose half brother Christopher died young in a car crash, makes his living by conducting auto accident postmortems. He also loves his boss's wife, who -- not coincidentally -- was Christopher's high school girlfriend. It sounds complicated, but in the end all these likably flawed people are just trying to answer the same two questions: What happened? And whose fault was it?"
Publishers Weekly: "Arvin's impressive second novel...is suffused with sharp turns and minute, telling details that add up to a riveting consideration of risk and responsibility."
David Wroblewski, author of The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: "The Reconstructionist becomes a contemplation of the broadest questions of life: How do we love one another? How do we survive the accidents of our lives? Or is it fate? Nick Arvin is an immensely gifted writer, and he has given us a thrilling, soulful book."
Join Nick Tuesday, May 8th, at 7:30PM at the Boulder Book Store, located at 1107 Pearl Street, as he speaks about and signs his new book, The Reconstructionist.
You can find The Reconstructionist in bookstores or on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Reconstructionist-Novel-P-S-Nick-Arvin/dp/0061995169
