Amgen cGMP Pharmaceutical Facilities Processing and Lab Upgrade Projects
Customer: Amgen, Inc.
Project Location:Thousand Oaks, California; Boulder, Colorado; Seattle, Washington
Amgen discovers, develops, manufacturers and delivers innovative human therapeutics. A biotechnology pioneer since 1980, Amgen was one of the first companies to realize the new science’s promise by bringing safe and effective medicines from lab, to manufacturing plant, to patient.
The Challenge
Amgen required a multi-discipline engineering approach to over 100 projects since 2003 at multiple sites. The projects required a multi-disciplined engineering design integrated with architectural support. The projects also required knowledge of the local authorities having jurisdiction in order to obtain the necessary building and code permits for project execution.
The Solution
Harris Group provides a broad range of design engineering services including architectural, mechanical, electrical, process, structural and automation. Executing work in a regulated industry means providing the appropriate documentation and an understanding of the change control process. It also means having an ingrained understanding of the state and local agencies which govern the implementation of projects.
The Benefits
The design of the facilities and supporting utilities requires an intimate understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry, so as to apply an integrated engineering approach to each design for a complete and functional system.
Harris Group engineers possess a broad base of experience and knowledge of bioprocess and facility design, equipment capabilities and specifications, materials of construction, and general engineering issues. Coupled with our expertise in the bioprocess arena, Harris Group was able to provide Amgen with the right designs to enable them to achieve their strategic goals.
