Hawaii Biodiesel Plant
Customer: Imperium Renewables, Inc.
Project Location:Honolulu, Hawaii
In an effort to get to production quickly with a market-dominating volume of 100 million gallons per year of biodiesel, Imperium Renewables engineered, designed and constructed, often in parallel, the largest biodiesel production facility in the United States in Grays Harbor, Washington.
The Challenge
Imperium Renewables’ goal was to repeat this activity for a new facility in Hawaii, incorporating start-up learnings from Grays Harbor. Of paramount importance was the need for a detailed modular design generated in half the time of the Grays Harbor engineering exercise.
The Solution
Harris Group has an extensive and responsive design staff capable of executing a quick detailed design. While modifying the process design to incorporate new learnings from Grays Harbor, and accommodating the differences of constructing and operating in Hawaii, Harris Group was able to meet the customer’s requirements.
The Benefits
Harris Group was able to adapt the Grays Harbor design and meet the customer’s needs. Because of Harris Group’s flexibility in adapting the design to Hawaii, and our familiarity with the process that Imperium wants to propagate, Harris Group has been retained by Imperium for the design of subsequent facilities.
