The Oregon Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers is sponsoring a one-day seminar, "A Review of Current Instrumentation and Controls for the Practicing Engineer" at Portland State University's Smith Memorial Center on Tuesday, December 3, 2002. Registration is $50 for ASME members and $70 for non-members that pre-register by November 22 or $80 on the day of the class.
Seminar topics include an overview of recent instrumentation development and data collection and analysis from programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCS). Experienced control systems engineers Gilbert Kwan of Harris Group Inc. and Jeff Haklmazian of Executive Manufacturing Technologies will lead the course.
Kwan, a member of Harris Group's systems integration team, applies PLC and DCS systems in process manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, waste water treatment plants, and power plants. With 12 years of experience, Kwan has a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering from the University of British Columbia and a technologist degree in process control instrumentation engineering technology from British Columbia Institute of Technology.
The ASME seminar on December 3rd is designed to meet up to eight professional development hours for P.E. licensing requirements. A certificate of completion will be issued to participants at the end of the seminar. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis until a class size of 50 is reached.
